Welcome message from the JpSAC chair
Welcome to Japan, and welcome to JpSAC! As the chair of JpSAC, I would like to welcome all of you foreign scientists and students starting your work and studies in the field of atmospheric chemistry in Japan.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to become a member of JpSAC, the “home” of atmospheric chemists in Japan. With your enrollment in JpSAC, you will obtain several benefits, but the true benefit, I believe, is not such membership items. Becoming a JpSAC member provides an excellent opportunity for you to connect with Japanese scientists, get engaged more in the Japanese community and advance your career, as well as for us Japanese scientists to broaden our views and become friends with you. This benefit is not limited only to the period of your stay in Japan, but it lasts also for the forthcoming years and decades of your scientific/academic life.
As a member, you belong to the Japanese community of scientists, researchers, teachers, and students who share your passion for atmospheric chemistry. Not only permanent workforce at Japanese universities/institutes can become members of JpSAC, but also postdocs and students, who have become more and more in number over the last several years. Over the past several years, I have been hoping to enhance the involvement and commitment of international scientists in Japan, and the JpSAC executive committee has started pushing forward this initiative. This is for building a more seamless and coherent community at grass-roots level, and I believe this is a natural and necessary step for ensuring a sound scientific community.
Should you have any questions, feel free to ask me or Toshinobu Machida, who is an accounting/membership board member. You can also ask any of the committee members.
We look forward to welcoming you as a member in our organization. We also always welcome your comments and feedback.
Hiroshi TANIMOTO, JpSAC Chair
