■Overview
The current global atmosphere faces problems that are directly related to our lives, such as global warming and air pollution. The solution requires an accurate understanding of the actual situation of the atmosphere. These issues range from the local scale to the global scale, thus global observation with satellite remote sensing plays an essential role. This committee contributes to solving these social issues by further understanding the atmosphere using existing satellite observation data and proposing new atmospheric observation satellite projects.
■Recent Activities
- The TANSO-3 sensor on board Global Observing Satellite for Greenhouse gases and Water Cycle (GOSAT-GW: scheduled for launch in 2024 will be the first space-borne observation of an air pollutant (NO2) in Japan, in addition to CO2 and CH4, to indentify large-scale emission sources. Members of the Japan Society of Atmospheric Chemistry (JpSAC) play a central role in driving research and development of the NO2 observations from space using GOSAT-GW. We also propose hourly measurements of atmospheric composition from geostationary satellites and vertical profile measurements from limb-viewing satellite instruments for future missions.
- Application for open call for earth observing satellite missions (3rd trial) by the Task Force Meeting on future space developments of the Remote Sensing Subcommittee.
Title: GHGs/SLCFs measurements and emission assessments in Asia from Geostationary orbit (PI Yasuko Kasai)
Presented in JpGU 2023. (Presentation file is here) - Presentation at Earth Observation Workshop 2023 by the Task Force Meeting on future space developments of the Remote Sensing Subcommittee. (Presentation file is here)
